A single reservoir supplies the petrol to the whole city, while the reservoir is fed by a single pipeline filling the reservoir with the stream of uniform volume. When the reservoir is full and if 40,000 liters of petrol is used daily, the supply fails in 90 days. If 32,000 liters of petrol is used daily, if fails in 60 days. How many petrol can be used daily without the supply ever failing?
Solution:
Let x liter be the per day filling and v liter be the capacity of the reservoir, then
90x + v = 40000 x 90 ------> (1)
60x +v = 32000 x 60 -------> (2)
Solving eq (1) and (2) , we get
x = 56000
Hence, 56000 liters per day can be used without the failure of supply.
The total number of men, women and children working in a factory is 18. They earn Rs.4000 in a day. If the sum of the wages of all men, all women and all children is in the ratio of 18:10:12 and if the wages of an individual man, woman and child is in the ratio 6:5:3, then how much a woman earn in a day?
Solution:
Ratio of number of men, women and children
= 18/6 : 10/5 : 12/3 = 3x : 2x ; 4x
(3x + 2x + 4x) = 18
X = 2
Therefore, number of women = 4
Share of all women = 10/40 x 4000 = Rs. 1000
(therfore 18 +10 + 12 = 40)
therefore share of each woman = 1000/4 = rs. 250
Henry and Ford are two different persons, but when they worked together, they complete it in days. Had Henry worked at half of his efficiency and Ford at five times of his efficiency it would have taken them to finish the job in 50% of the scheduled time. In how many days ford can complete the job working alone?
a) 12 b) 24 c) 15 d) 30
Solution:
Efficiency of henry and ford ( combined ) = 10%
Consider option (d)
Efficiency of ford = 3.33% (30 days)
therefore efficiency of Henry = 6.66%
Now, the new efficiency of ford = 16.66%
and the new efficiency of henry = 3.33%
Therefore, newly combined efficiency of H and F = 20%
Therefore, required number of days by Henry and Ford working together = 5
since 5 is half of 10, hence the option (d) is correct.
